Frequently Asked Questions

Question:

How does granite compare to synthetic/engineered stone?

Answer:

Granite has been around for millions of years, while engineered stone is a fairly new product, made with crushed stone, mixed with epoxies and acrylic that has the look of granite, but the similarities end there. For resistance to heat, scratches, stains and overall granite is unsurpassed. Price wise both are comparable.

Question:

In your opinion, what is the most common thing to do: an over mount or an under mount sink installation?

Answer:

It's based on preference. Most of the installations that we do are under mount.

Question:

How would I select a contractor to do my granite and/or tile installation?

Answer:

There are four things that you should take into consideration: references, credentials, investment, and rapport with the company's sales rep.

Question:

Why does it cost more to have a natural stone tile installation than a ceramic/porcelain installation?

Answer:

While both require a firm and level setting bed, this is more important for natural stone. The stone is brittle by nature and the minerals that make up its pattern are not perfectly "cemented" to each other, so it is subject to fracture along the grain lines. Setting materials and time involved drive the price of installation higher.

Question:

Other companies are offering lifetime warranties in their workmanship. Is this possible?

Answer:

Whose lifetime are we talking about? Are we referring to the company that did the job? As you know companies come and go.

Question:

Are there any granites that are considered better quality than others?

Answer:

Granite is granite, and there is no such thing. They are all natural stones. However there are some granites that are considered exotic. In other words they are rare, limited in their extraction time during the year, and that is why they are more expensive.

Question:

Can a granite countertop be installed directly over a cabinet without a rough top?

Answer:

No, only if the granite is 3 centimeters thick.

Question:

What type of warranty does your company provide?

Answer:

We offer a comprehensive written limited workmanship warranty in all of our granite, natural stone and tile installations.

Question:

Is it safe to do business with an unlicensed individual?

Answer:

Definitely not! You are risking your money with an individual who is breaking the law by operating without a license from the Contractors State License Board. Normally workmanship is below standards. If something goes wrong with the job down the road, they are not coming back to fix the problem. Monies paid are not accountable for. Worst of all if this individual gets hurt on the job, he can sue you for medical bills.

Question:

Can I put a hot plate on my granite countertop?

Answer:

Yes, granite is capable of withstanding up to 900° degrees Fahrenheit.

Question:

Is it possible to get different edge treatments in my countertops?

Answer:

Yes, we offer several edge treatments from the standard ones to the most elaborate ones.

Question:

I have noticed fiberglass mesh on the backs of certain slabs. Why is that?

Answer:

Some materials have more veining and are more delicate, so at the quarries of origin, before shipping and fabrication, the mesh is installed. Once the material is installed it won't go anywhere.

Question:

What sets you apart from other companies?

Answer:

Quality, service, integrity and the best investment in town.
